Anthology with the title “Ukraine. 24 poets for one country” was published by the French publishing house Editions Bruno Doucey.
The compiler of the anthology, Ella Yevtushenko, notes that the number of authors is not accidental: it is connected both with the dates of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence and the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. According to her, this is also the optimal number of poets.
The collection will include poems by 24 Ukrainian poets and poets: Yuriy Andruhovych, Natalka Bilotserkivets, Taras Shevchenko, Olena Gerasimyuk, Bohdan-Oleg Horobchuk, Serhiy Zhadan, Boris Khersonskyi, Lyudmila Khersonskaia, Pavel Korobchuk, Lina Kostenko, Oleg Kotsarev, Halyna Kruk, Lesya Ukrainka, Yevgena Pluzhnyk, Mykhailo Semenko, Hryhoriy Semenchuk, Ostap Slyvinsky, Yulia Stakhivska, Vasyl Stus, Iryna Tsylyk, Lyubov Yakymchuk, Ella Yevtushenko, Oksana Zabuzhko, and Yuriy Zavadskyi.
Yevtushenko said that for the publisher, the anthology was an opportunity to get rid of the feeling of guilt due to powerlessness, to do something for Ukraine, for her it was a kind of contribution to victory, a cultural front.
“In general, the promotion of Ukrainian poetry in France was my longtime dream. It is a pity that such a great calamity opened the way to its implementation. But this is also a great way to remind about the war, because people of culture, that is, the audience of our anthology, are people who can influence something,” the poet emphasized.
